Inflation has been above 2%, the Fed’s threshold for raising their rate, since March 2021. From the 2.25% their rate was pre-Covid, lowered to .25% at the pandemic’s start, then recently, the last two month .75% rate hikes pushed the Federal Reserve’s rate to 2.50%, a quarter point higher than it was at the start, and it may, finally be having the desired effect as the YOY inflation rate for July dropped to 8.52%. Perhaps it will allow J. Powell to take his foot off the gas a bit in September.
